Skills for life
Our youth mentor team nurture young people to make positive choices and stay in school. Each year Good Neighbour teaches 120 youth vital life skills, self-discovery, hope, and empowers them to explore career or education pathways leading to a positive future.

Seniors living well
This initiative is about providing wrap around care for the older community who are struggling to live on the pension. We provide sustainable living programs such as cooking workshops, social belonging opportunities, cooked meals, care packs, property maintenance support, and social work care. Good Neighbour is part of the Super Support Collaboration, involving Tauranga Food Bank, Bay Financial Mentors, Here to Help U and Age Concern. This is a great partnership where together we are able to do so much more to support older people in our community.
Whānau journey
Practical support is often just the beginning of the journey. While helping someone clear an overgrown backyard, move house, or access food may meet an immediate need, our Care Team takes the time to understand what led to that situation in the first place.
Walking alongside whānau, our team builds trusted relationships to uncover the underlying challenges that may be impacting their lives. Together, they identify the root causes and connect people with the right support, guidance, and opportunities to create lasting change.
Even if you don't need it, you may know someone who does.
A request we recieved: "Can I borrow and mower and weed eater, it’s not for me it’s for my neighbour, she has recently lost her Dad, my grandson and I want to mow her lawns”.
“I didn’t realise Good Neighbour did so much. Since I have been involved with Good Neighbour, I now feel so calm and peaceful. I don’t have tears anymore. I used to get quite tearful but I haven’t had any tears for a while now. Things are a lot better ”
"A 92 year old who was previously struggling to pay her bills, lived in a cold house and lacked any social connections now is on top of her finances, has had support to upgrade the warmth of her house and is now attending our regular Super Support lunches and has found a space of friendship and belonging"
"A client who recently lost her husband has been supported (alongside Bay Financial Mentors) in the transfer of bills / assets over to her / managing the estate. She has received some additional food support, support with WINZ and legal appointments/advocacy and even liaising with funeral directors to ensure the process was as easy as possible for the client"
"An older couple were overwhelmed with doctors and hospital appointments and financially struggling to keep up with the costs. They have received some longer term kai support, wrap-around support with medical professionals and Social Workers etc and they have even been gifted new phones and connected to the internet by another local charity".
